Byzantine Museum of Ioannina
The Byzantine Museum of Ioannina is located inside the Castle of Ioannina, in the southeast acropolis known as Itch Kale. The majority of the museum’s collection is housed in the building where the Military Hospital was built, over the ruins of the residence (serai) of Ali Pasha. The collection of silverware is kept on the so-called Treasure Chest located at the center of the citadel, while, at the Fethiye mosque, an exhibition about the history of the city is presented.

It is located in Its Kale and is housed in a building that was rebuilt on the ruins of Ali Pasha’s seraglio, which was completely destroyed in 1870 by fire.Show more
The museum was inaugurated in 1995 with the aim of preserving the finds of the wider region of Epirus, which chronologically cover the early Christian, Byzantine and post-Byzantine periods. Its collections
include early Christian and Byzantine sculptures, finds from Arta, ceramics, books, Christian icons and a remarkable collection of silversmithing.
In addition to the exhibition of its collections, it is also a cultural center, since it hosts musical and theatrical events, as well as many temporary exhibitions.
More of the same in the building is under construction. If you have already been to the municipal museum, this is not really necessary. The view over the water remains beautiful to see. There is also a silverware museum on this site.Show more
